SUMMARY:TRAINING: HOW TO START A CONVERSATION ABOUT COVID-19 VACCINES
DESCRIPTION:Tomorrow is the deadline for workers across the community care services sector to have had their first dose of any COVID-19 vaccine\, and WACOSS has supported the introduction of this mandate to ensure that we can keep vulnerable members of our community safe. This is particularly important\, given the likelihood of an outbreak of COVID-19\, and the threat of new variants in our community\, when we open up next year. \nBut\, we know there are groups of people across the community with very low vaccination rates where historical mistrust of\, and trauma associated with\, our medical system and government must be acknowledged. \nThe community care services sector is right on the frontline with many of the groups that remain hesitant to receiving the COVID-19 vaccine because we provide services to them every single day. Frontline community care services workers are well positioned to have conversations about the importance of getting vaccinated. \nThe Department of Health and WACOSS will be offering two webinars in early December to frontline workers in the community care services sector. These webinars will be designed to equip workers with the tools they need to have persuasive conversations with vaccine-hesitant communities and dispel any myths they may have about COVID-19. \nTo register for Webinar 1 ( Thursday 9 Dec\, 10.00am – 11.30am) click here \nTo register for Webinar 2 ( Wednesday 15 Dec\, 10.00am – 11.30am ) click here  \n

SUMMARY:Falls Prevention and Neurological Conditions - Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Neurological conditions have been recognised as a risk factor for falls. Common conditions seen to increase the risk of a fall include stroke and Parkinson’s disease. There are many ways in which physiological factors accompanying these conditions can increase this risk of falls. Due to the negative impact associated with falling\, it is important for practitioners working with patients diagnosed with a neurological condition to recognise this increased risk for falls and be able to assess and implement appropriate interventions. \nJoin us at our upcoming webinar ‘Falls Prevention and Neurological Conditions’\, presented by Anita Rattray\, Physiotherapist and Lisa Barry\, Occupational Therapist at Parkinson’s Clinic\, Osborne Park Hospital. The webinar will provide participants with knowledge of common neurological conditions which increase falls risk as well as strategies for reducing falls risk. \nThis webinar aims to: \n\nIncrease knowledge and understanding of common neurological conditions and their impact on falls risk.\nIncrease knowledge of strategies for preventing falls in people with neurological conditions.\nIncrease understanding of referral pathways for relevant services.\nIncrease knowledge of available resources to support clinical practice\n\nRegister here
