SUMMARY:Advance Care Planning Community Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Death is an important part of life. So like any other significant life event\, it’s well worth your consideration and a little forward planning. \nThis process is called advance care planning. Advance care planning is the process of discussing and documenting your future health care wishes\, values and priorities. It enables your family\, friends\, carers and health professionals to understand what you want\, should you become so unwell that you are unable to speak for yourself. More than 80% of Australians think it’s important to put our end-of-life care preferences into writing\, but less than 5% of us have completed an advance care plan. \nBOOKINGS ARE ESSENTIAL as places are limited. Register now to receive your Resource Pack in the mail. \nFor further information\, please contact the Place & Community Development Team on 9531 7628. \nPart of the Socially Active Seniors Program funded by the Department of Communities and the Shire of Murray.

SUMMARY:It's the Soil that Counts - 2 Day Workshop
DESCRIPTION:On-Site accommodation is available. Please contact David on 0429 815 373. \nThis is a COBWA supported event. \nSoil microbes are essential to healthy soil and healthy soil is essential to healthy plants. Let us build your knowledge and skills to understand how microbes build soil\, so you can reduce water requirements\, provide plant nutrients\, protect our environment and break down toxins with these naturally occurring little workers. These interactive workshops will get you much more closely acquainted with our wonderful living soil whether it is on a town block\, or acreage and are suitable for individuals\, professional development\, and as an introduction for commercial purposes. \nThe ‘It’s the Soil that Counts’ series comprises two workshops – the first will provide foundational skills and knowledge of soil food webs and using brightfield microscopes. The second will build on the knowledge and skills from the first to monitor and assist in managing soil biological health. The topics to be covered are outlined below. \nFoundational Class (10am to 4pm) \n\nUse brightfield microscopes\nSoil food webs\nIdentifying micro-organisms\nViewing soil samples\nExploring strategies to assist soil health\n\nBy the end of the Foundation Class you will have a greater understanding of soil food webs (why we need bacteria and fungi to gather nutrients\, and protozoa and nematodes to make those nutrients available to plants). You will be able to identify soil food web microbes when you look at a sample of soil through a microscope and have some ideas for how you can look after and attract microbes to your soil. \nMaster Class (9am to 4pm)  \n*Please note a Foundational class is a prerequisite to attending the master class. \n\nUse brightfield microscopes\nReview and extend knowledge of soil food webs\nReview and extend knowledge of micro-organisms\nMonitoring soil biological health\nExploring remediation strategies\n\nBy the end of the Master Class you will have extended your knowledge of how the soil food web works\, practiced organism identification\, learnt how to assess the qualitative health of soil and consider remediation strategies based on what has been learnt. \n  \nRefund Policy\nRefunds are available 7 days prior to the event
